United in Wellness: A New Lifeline for Carers in Peterborough

Caring for a loved one can be rewarding, but it can also be exhausting, isolating and overwhelming. Many carers put their own health at the bottom of the list while juggling appointments, responsibilities and the emotional weight of supporting someone else.

Recognising this unseen strain, the Peterborough United Foundation has launched a brand new initiative designed to give carers the time, tools and space they so often miss.

United in Wellness is a free 12-week programme created to support carers’ wellbeing, confidence and overall health. Built on the success of the Foundation’s earlier Fit for Life programme, this new city-wide rollout has been developed in partnership with Peterborough City Council and the Integrated Neighbourhood Team. The aim is simple: to help carers feel stronger, more supported and less alone.

Over the coming months, the Foundation will be running sessions in six different community hubs across Peterborough, bringing support directly into neighbourhoods where carers already live and work. Each session offers practical guidance, gentle movement, and the chance to connect with others who truly understand the demands of caring.

“For many carers, this programme is the first time someone has asked, ‘How are you doing?’”

United in Wellness is more than just a class. It’s a moment to breathe. A moment to learn. A moment to reconnect with yourself. And for many carers, it may be the first step towards feeling supported again.

If you know someone who gives so much of themselves every day, please pass this on.
